Reading
We are working on letters and sounds. We are learning new sight words. The students are working on blending sounds to make and read words. Daily 5 is also part of our reading. We do 4-5 centers a day. We will be doing interventions 4 days a week. Some students stay with me and some work with other teachers and paraprofessionals. We are learning about parts of speech. The students are learning to identify nouns and verbs. They are working on comprehension. |
Math
In math we are working on identifying numbers to 120. We are learning to count by 2's, 5's, 10's and 1's to 120, and backwards from 120. They are learning to write their numbers to 120. The students are working on memorizing facts to 10. They need to memorize adding and subtracting. We will be doing FIM this year. It is an excellent program that is used all year to repeatedly expose the students to common core objectives. It is a great component that encourages students to always try and to think about solving math problems in multiple ways. |
Writing
In writing we are working on responding to prompts. The students are working on writing 5 or more sentences related to a topic. They are focusing on using capital letters at the beginning of the sentence and punctuation at the end. They are checking for nouns and verbs so that they have complete sentences. The students are working on adding detail to their sentences. We are trying to write 7-Up sentences.
